No, this is NOT a recall. As part of the settlement of a Canadian class action lawsuit, Mercedes-Benz Canada is offering owners and lessees of eligible vehicles in Canada a modification to the vehicles’ emission control system, referred to as Canada Field Measure.

Owners and lessees in Canada of eligible MY09 to MY16 OM642 and OM651 BlueTEC II diesel vehicles are being offered a modification to the vehicles’ emission control system, referred to as a Field Measure.  The Field Measure differs by model and model year. This modification will be performed at no cost to the Owner/Lessee. For more information on your specific VIN, you may enter it at https://bluetecupdate.mercedes-benz-vans.ca

Owners and lessees of eligible vehicles will receive written notification that the Field Measure for their vehicle is available, and requesting them to bring in their vehicle to their preferred authorized Mercedes-Benz Van Dealer.

Owners/Lessees will be asked to contact their local authorized Mercedes-Benz Van Dealer to arrange for an appointment to complete the Field Measure.  An authorized Mercedes-Benz Van dealer will install the Field Measure at no cost to the Owner/Lessee. Owners/Lessees can also find their nearest authorized Mercedes-Benz Dealer by visiting us online.

Not all Field Measures will be released at the same time. Mercedes-Benz Canada will notify Owners/Lessees of eligible vehicles once the Field Measure is released and available for their vehicle.

Authorized Mercedes-Benz Dealers will update software and replace specific emissions-related components in the eligible vehicles. This replacement is part of the Field Measure and varies by model and model year.

The class action settlement, and so the vehicles for which Field Measures will be available, include MY09 to MY16 BlueTEC II vehicles with with OM642 and OM651 engines. Owners/Lessees can check if their specific vehicle is eligible by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the following site: https://bluetecupdate.mercedes-benz.ca.

Owners/Lessees should wait to bring their vehicle in for the Field Measure until they receive notice or otherwise confirm that the Field Measure has been released and made available for their specific vehicle. Written notification does not need to be presented to receive the Field Measure. The Field Measures for the eligible vehicle models (MY09 to MY16 BlueTEC II vehicles with OM642 and OM651 engines) will be launched in phases and not at the same time.

Once the Field Measure has been released for a particular vehicle type, Owners/Lessees will be sent a written notification advising them that they can schedule an appointment with their authorized Mercedes-Benz Van Dealer to perform the Field Measure. If, prior to receiving the Field Measure, a vehicle has been altered with the use of any after-market emissions-related components, parts, and/or software or the removal of any original emissions-related components, parts, and/or software, and such alteration(s) are likely to substantially affect the operation of the vehicle with the Field Measure or substantially impede installation of the Field Measure, Dealers may not install the Field Measure until the owner of such vehicle, at his or her expense, has reversed the alteration(s) such that the Field Measure may be installed and not be substantially affected.

If Owners/Lessees decline the Field Measure at this time, they will be advised by their authorized Mercedes-Benz Van Dealer that certain emissions-related replacement and repair parts (for their existing system) may no longer be available at some point in the future. Additionally, the current vehicle Owner/Lessee will not be able to make a compensation claim as part of the proposed class action settlement without first having the Field Measure performed on their vehicle.

Yes. Once the Field Measure is performed, certain components will have an extended warranty for the greater of (i)10 years/193,000 kilometers from the initial sale date of the vehicle, whichever comes first; or (ii) 4 years/77,250 kilometers from the date of installation of the Field Measure, whichever comes first .
